Jesus: Past, Present, and Future

What Jesus Has Done
Jesus was actually God’s agent of creation! Think of Him there with God in the beginning, forming the universe, fashioning the earth, filling it with life, and making man. “All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:3).

When the right time came, Jesus stepped down into the world that He Himself had made. He took on flesh and became one of us!

And then the cross and the empty tomb. What love! What glory! No wonder He has drawn millions to Himself (John 12:32-33).

What Jesus is Doing
Jesus’ work didn’t end when He ascended back to the Father as His disciples gazed skyward. “After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high . . .” (Hebrews 1:3). There He serves as our “merciful and faithful high priest” (Hebrews 2:17). “. . . he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25).

What Jesus Will Do
Someday He will rise majestically from His throne and “descend from heaven with a cry of command . . . And the dead in Christ will rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16). What a day of terror it will be for the unprepared, but what a day of supreme joy for those who are ready. He will then judge the world (Matthew 25:31 46).

In view of what Jesus has done, is now doing, and will do, how can we but love Him, obey Him, and serve Him?
