Go Ahead—Add COVID to the List!

Go Ahead—Add COVID to the List!

Seventeen things. You can count them. In the following passage Paul lists 17 things that CANNOT separate the faithful Christian from the love of God and Christ.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? . . . . No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 8:35, 37-39).

Note how comprehensive that last one is: “nor anything else in all creation” (v. 39)—including COVID!

With the virus and all the turmoil going on these days, if we get to feeling anxious or weary, let’s remember, as Paul emphasizes three times in the passage above, WE ARE LOVED!

Phil Robertson said it well: “Because of what Christ did for us, we place our heads on our pillows at night and sleep soundly no matter what is going on in the world around us. Deadly viruses lurking in the shadows ready to take us out? No problem—my hope is secure. Social unrest and the unraveling of our culture? I’m still good to go because all of my hope is in Jesus. Nothing has more power to enable me to live a victorious and joyful life than the hope of the Gospel.” (“What’s Next?” One Kingdom Newsletter, Issue 3, 2020).

And Paul said it best: “. . . in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

And so tonight, sleep tight!
